Wabi Sabi
We use reclaimed wood when possible, and locally source quality hardwoods. We divert as much waste as we can from landfills by giving existing materials a new life, recycling, composting, and offering scrap wood for kindling.
If you're near Nanaimo and would like some kindling, let us know!
We are always on the lookout for good wood in need of a new life. It could be reclaimed from a renovation or a battered piece of furniture. We’ll make a small run of frames, and when they’re gone, they’re gone. We hand cut and finish every frame, so even within a given batch each frame has its own unique variations - just like a fingerprint. We also source quality existing and vintage frames for refresh and/or reuse.
We've been working in framing and art for over twenty years and absolutely love learning new things in our field - we're framing geeks! If there's something we don't know about, we want to dive right in and learn more.
Our scrap mat board is recycled to make the covers for our sketchbooks and notebooks! We source our fabric and paper for the covers from new sometimes, but usually purchase both new and vintage fabric from secondhand shops.
It isn't - a rabbet is both a type of woodworking cut and a join. It is also the name given to the part of the picture frame that holds the artwork, because - you guessed it - that space is created by cutting a rabbet into the moulding.
